Job Summary:  Responsible for assisting in the research and development of new LED lighting products for the lighting industry through the creation of new product concepts, computer simulation, creation of manufacturing drawings, and electrical schematics.  Project management skills are a must for this position as the person will be responsible for not only conceptualizing and designing the product but will also be responsible for seeing it through testing and certification. This position also has a technical support role that requires frequent interaction with various departments including customer service. Occasional travel and work in the field is also expected for the troubleshooting and commissioning of lighting systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create new LED light fixture designs using SolidWorks.
  • Do thermal and photometric analysis using simulation software as well as physical testing using photometric testing equipment.
  • Cost estimating for new products.
  • Conduct research and development for new and modified products.
  • Project management.
  • Submittal of new product for testing and certification by third party testing labs.
  • Create mechanical drawings and electrical schematics for production.
  • Responsible for creating user instructions, assembly instructions and other technical documents for use by internal and external customers.
  • Manufacturing support on prototype and first run products.
  • Prototype assembly.
  • Coordinating engineering changes on the production floor.
  • Provide technical support for various departments including but not limited to production, sales, marketing, and customer service.
  • Occasional customer service backup.
  • Data entry into the Visual Manufacturing software system.
  • Programming of Panel Bender for new products and occasional programming adjustments for production.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required:

  • 4-year college degree in engineering related field.
  • Strong knowledge of SolidWorks design software or similar 3D modeling program
  • Knowledge of electrical circuits.
  • Knowledge of business-related computer software.
  • Knowledge or experience with third party testing laboratories such as UL and ETL is preferred but not necessary.
